IPL treatment typically takes 20–30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. Smaller areas, such as the face or hands, may take closer to 20 minutes, while larger areas like the chest or full face and neck may take up to 30 minutes or slightly longer.
The appointment usually includes cleansing the skin, applying a cooling gel, performing the IPL treatment, and reviewing post-treatment care instructions. IPL treatments are quick and minimally invasive, allowing most patients to return to normal activities immediately afterward, although mild redness similar to a light sunburn may occur for a few hours to a few days.
IPL treatments target pigmentation, redness, and overall skin tone to create a clearer, more even complexion. The treatment uses broad-spectrum light to break up unwanted pigment and reduce visible blood vessels while stimulating collagen production for improved skin quality.
IPL is commonly used to treat concerns such as sun damage, age spots, freckles, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. It is also effective for reducing redness, broken capillaries, and rosacea, while helping improve overall skin brightness and clarity. As collagen production increases, patients may also notice smoother texture and mild improvement in fine lines.
IPL treatments are most commonly performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands, where sun damage and discoloration are most noticeable. This makes IPL an excellent option for patients looking to improve overall skin tone, reduce discoloration, and achieve a brighter, more refreshed appearance.
IPL treatments are typically recommended in a series of 3–5 treatments spaced about 3–4 weeks apart for optimal improvement in pigmentation, redness, and overall skin tone. Because IPL works by gradually breaking up pigment and stimulating collagen, multiple sessions help achieve more noticeable and longer-lasting results.
After completing the initial series, many patients choose maintenance treatments every 6–12 months to maintain clearer, brighter, and more even-toned skin. Your provider may recommend a customized schedule based on your skin concerns, sun exposure, and desired results.
